Oh hey there! Did I get your attention?!
I was scrolling on Instagram this am in bed, (which I rarely do because I have a no phone in bed rule for myself) and I came across a guy talking about the topic of HAPPINESS. The word alone can be triggering for many people, I find it can bring up lots of negative emotions. The questions start spiraling in our mind: am I happy? am I as happy as my friends? how could I be happier? why am I so unhappy? what does happiness actually look like? and the most pressing question, WHAT DOES HAPPINESS MEAN TO ME?
So anyway, this guy says something along the lines of: every now and then we must PAUSE in our relentless pursuit of HAPPINESS, to stop, and BE HAPPY. Be in the moment, or it will pass us by and we won't even notice it. We won't even get to enjoy it. And even though I know this and I basically just wrote about this in my last blog post, it really struck me this morning. We, as ever evolving humans are not really evolving, we are so busy, busy, busy, that we are missing the whole point of life. And those old timey sayings such as "stop and smell the roses" really mean something.
This idea of LESS IS MORE, keeps coming back to me. "Simplify," my heart and mind seem to be saying. And here is a straight up fact for you: A person in 2025 takes in as much information in 1 day, than a person in the 1700's took in their entire lives. And we are supposed to actually PROCESS this????
So the point of this post is to remind myself (and you too) that more (information, choices, options, menu items, clothing, parties to attend, etc.) is not better. Another old saying comes to mind, "quality, not quantity." So to sum things up here, I think the TRICK TO LIFE is to PAY ATTENTION to when we feel calm, content, like we are exactly where we are supposed to be, when our nervous system is happy. TAKE NOTE of these moments and breathe into them. Just be in them. They are what make up a GOOD LIFE.
Ok?
XO,
